Back by pathetic demand...

"Mommy's legs are broken and she can't get off the couch."

It's been a while since I've played this game, but tonight I just had to. I went to bed at 10:30pm last night -- early for me, put my CPAP mask over my nose and fell asleep. The next thing I knew, Mike was hurriedly waking me, saying we'd overslept.

It was 6:30am, 30 minutes after we should have gotten up and EIGHT whole hours after I went to bed. What's more, I wore my mask all night. Usually, it ends up on the floor or under my pillow, though I never remember taking it off.

So I was psyched. Eight hours of apnea-free sleep. I waited for the energy to gush from my pores. Only it didn't. The first few hours of work were bearable. But the hours after lunchtime had me wanting to crawl under my desk for a quick snooze.

I even posted about it on Facebook:

"I got 8 hours of sleep last night and my butt is still dragging. What's up with that?"

Two people replied, one a mom and one a friend of Mike's who happens to be a doctor:

The Mom: "Cumulative sleep deprivation. It's a killer."
(Ahhh, the voice of sympathy.)

The Doc: "Exercise."

Ugh! Why did he have to go drag the "e" word into this pity party? I couldn't help myself, so I replied:

"All you doctors are the same. How come the Rx is never "park it on the couch and eat ice cream?!"

I couldda, shouldda followed doctor's orders. I could have driven Charlie to soccer practice where I should have walked on the trails. I'm sure all that fresh air would have done me some good.

But instead, I opted to give in to my fatigue and sit myself on the couch to play not one, but two of my favorite games -- "Mommy's legs are broken..." and "Dinner is whatever you can find."

Tomorrow, I promise, I will get off the couch, make some dinner and get some exercise. But for tonight, I plan to keep the remote handy.

My bum doesn't get glued to the sofa...but to the office chair...and sometimes I feel guilty. Does this make me a bad momza? Send help.

If it's an on-going issue, you might also want to see your doctor and go in for a full physical. Yes, exercise and rest will help, but you may also have other reasons for fatigue: anemia, b-12 deficiency, etc.

@Momza, once in a while is ok, I think. And for the record, I did get up long enough to cook some chicken nuggets (whole grain, Mickey Mouse-shaped) and to give Robbie a bath. Oh, and I folded 2 loads of laundry. But other than that, I was a slug. And know what? I feel MUCH better today.

@Marine Wife, in fact, I am anemic. After ignoring doctor's orders for about 6 months, I've finally decided enough is enough and started taking iron pills last weekend. So far, the dreaded GI issues have not been a problem. I hope the iron kicks in soon.

Ohhh eight hours what a luxury - too bad your body didn't reward you. Amy I hear you loud and clear - we know what and how to do what we need to do to make our lives better but do we put that plan into action - hardly ever.

Shhhh I am just starting day 3 of behaving -- thinking of creating a blog about it - but that's all I am doing right now - ok that and eating the best I can.

OH and I love how we do nothing - cook some nuggets, do laundry, bath child - but that's what you need to do so that doesn't count - or does it????

I had been sitting here, listening to the list in my head of growing excuses as to why I should skip the gym today. And then I read your post. And am feeling inspired to get off my butt and head across the street for my workout. Heck, I might even walk over. Crazy.

@EternalLizdom - Glad I could provide some inspiration. Think I was in your neck of the woods today. Toured Bosma and went to lunch at Ted's.

All -- for the record, it's 4:37pm and I have not sat on the couch since I got home an hour and 30 minutes ago. And I have a plan for dinner. Go me!
