Forgotten fragments

Mommy's Idea

Friday. Thank goodness.

And thank Mrs. 4444s for hosting today's fragments.

This first fragment is a video of some sort. I remember enjoying it so much when I first saw it that I thought "I HAVE to share this on Friday fragments!" and so I started this post several days ago, pasting in the embed code for this video. But right now, it's just a big black rectangle on my screen and I cannot for the life of me remember what the heck it is. So I guess it'll be a big surprise for me when I hit the publish button.

Thank you to everyone who shared kind words regarding my mother-in-law. We went for a visit on Wednesday, a chance for a final goodbye. It was a time filled with laughter and tears. Please continue to keep us and especially my in-laws in your prayers as we continue this journey.

When the time does come that my MIL passes away, I've arranged for several great bloggers to share guest posts here. That way I won't feel pressured to post and you won't wonder if this blog has come to a sudden end.

Yesterday was the start of March Madness, aka the NCAA Men's Basketball tournament. My Butler Bulldogs beat Old Dominion with a buzzer-beater. Gotta love that!

Depending on who you ask, I either earned mother of the year yesterday or should be turned into the truant officer. I let Charlie stay home from school to watch the Butler game. He hasn't had any "mental health" days this year, has been working to stay on top of his homework, and needed funeral clothes. So I took him shopping in the morning -- (FYI, Old Navy does not carry anything funeral appropriate, but I did score a suit for $16 for at Once Upon a Child!), then Mike took him to watch the game with other Butler alum this afternoon.

I'm sure there is more I was more I was planning to share for this week's fragments. But my curiosity about that darn video is killing me, so I'll end it here.

Oh yeah! That's what it was...a video of a great cheer by the Utah State fans. I wonder if they won today. Hope so!

Cool video!

I'm so sorry about your mother in-law. I just read some of your older posts about her, and I have to wonder if anyone is truly ever prepared to say goodbye, even when you know it's coming. I will certainly pray for you all!

By the way, I vote mother of the year. It's basketball!

I remember in 5th grade a friend of mine was awarded the perfect attendance certificate for all the years he attended our school. I sighed and thought how sad that he never got to go out on a school day to do anything special.

It's a memorable thing - so glad you did it :)

Loved the video! but I didn't know what they were saying.

I do that same thing - post a video and save it as a draft. I copy the link in the html and paste it into my address bar so I can refresh my memory. I had to do that today with the baby video I posted. lol

sorry about your mother in law - it is always hard to say goodbye to family.

i think letting kid's have mental health days is very important. you probably created a very special memory today and won't even realize the impact it will have on your son by letting him know that you see how hard he is working and that he deserved a reward!!

hope the next few days or weeks is filled with happy tears of good memories. i always say we grieve for the living, cause heaven is where we all want to be!!

Certainly mother of the year! I gave my 5th grader a similar day this week just because he needed some time with me. Days like those are priceless.

We call 'em "Hooky Days"--the days I let my yahoos earn to take off from school. We haven't been able to do this whole year tho, because they've all gotten sick and had too much make-up work to do. Maybe this quarter....the yahoos love it tho.

Loved the Utah State cheer. Thx for sharing that.

And lastly, regarding your MIL--may you all be filled with peace in these last days and have lots of happy memories to fill your hearts.

i have done that!! posted something and i have no idea what it is because blogger won't let me see it.

i wish my mom would have let me play hoodie for football!! if i wanted to stay home, i had to heat the thermometer with my lamp sort of pranking. it rarely worked.

i am so sorry to hear about your MIL. we lost hubby's mother several years ago. it is not easy, no matter how long you have to say goodbye. i pray you can treasure and store up many wonderful memories to have when she passes.

I can't wait until my kids are in real school and we can have "mental health" days. Of course, those will probably be more mommy needed than kid needed. :)

I am so sorry about your MIL. We lost a MIL and FIL 7 month's apart 2 years ago. It is a trying time, I will say prayers for all of you.
I love having mental health days with the kids. They do deserve a break every now and then.
Hopefully you can find some peace this weekend.

Mental health days are essential in my opinion. School is important, but there are times when being with loved ones is more important.
As I write this I am thinking of my mother who passed away 2 years ago today (19th). I had her for 60 years, but it still wasn't enough. Stepdad passed a few months later. Lost inlaws and Dad many years ago. I still miss them all. Your family is in my heart.

God Bless, Gramma
