When someone goes in or out of the door, the Mama Robin flies away to a nearby tree. If you're not watching, you might just walk right into her flight path. I don't understand why she leaves the nest, though. It seems like she'd sit very tight to be protective of her eggs.
A quick search told us that the robin eggs should hatch in about 2 weeks. I hope they make it. I think it would be so cool see those little baby birds.

I believe she leaves the nest because she hopes that predators will follow her instead of investigating what she was doing in the tree, and she feels confident she can fly from danger presented by such predators.
Her instinct may be to protect herself first, but by flying away it would seem she could then attack you from a better angle...Enough of me trying to think like a bird this a.m. Great photos, please keep us updated.

Can't wait to see the little baby birdies! Every year we have a nest in the eaves of our front porch here at the office. I think they are barn swallows. Each year there is two batches of eggs. I'm not sure if it's the same mama or two different ones because the seem to flock around but it's really cool seeing how fast the grow up and leave the nest.
That is VERY cool! Love watching baby birds and their first steps towards independence!
