I went to bed around 1am. That should be late enough to be tired, right? I think I was tired. But someone forgot to tell my brain that it was time to go to bed. My brain wanted to run and roll and flip over thoughts such as:
- How much the bedrooms all need to be cleaned in the morning.
- What we're going to do with the kids while I work this summer.
- BINGO - as in Scrabble. I see tiles in my head and with my mind's eye, shuffle through them to try to find a 7-letter word.
- How tired I'm going to be in the morning because I'm only going to get 5 hours of sleep...4 hours and 53 minutes...4 hours and 47 minutes...
- How I'm too hot and should go downstairs and check the thermostat.
- How I should get up and go through coupons for the much needed grocery trip tomorrow.
- How I wonder if anyone is on Facebook right now.
It turns out I'm not the only one awake at 4:30am. Mike was downstairs watching television. Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Now that's enough to put me to sleep.

I have a whacky sleep schedule, so I'm often up at this time of day/night. I'm surprised at how few of us are online at this time most nights. Where are the other night owls? Lying in bed trying to sleep? Boring!
As a life-long night owl, I have often wondered the same thing, Dys. Not only is it boring trying to sleep when you can't it is frustrating and uncomfortable (as in toss and turn). Hope you both find an answer to the insomniac dilemma.
Sleeplessness or insomnia has been my "schtick" for about ten years, so I totally sympathize with you. Lunestra works well most of the time, but I hate facing a day when I'm low on good sleep!

I have a hard time sleeping also. I'm always up by 6ish, but then by 2 or 3, I'm EXHAUSTED!!! It sucks! Hope you finally got some much needed sleep!
By the way, Star Trek would put me to sleep too!
I've been having trouble sleeping the last 2 nights- and, unlike you, that's unusual for me. But it helps me feel your pain. I'm groggy and cranky today after 2 nights of very interrupted sleep.
since you have to function on the rest of the world's schedule - i recommend meds. my husband takes something that is non habit forming and not as potent or has side effects like ambien and the other well known sleep aids. he is supposed to take it an hour before bedtime and it helps make him rest. he too has one of those churning, worrying brains and he works midnights. he was so miserable, cause no matter how long he was in bed, he didn't rest. the doc put him on this in november and he saw instant results. he rests very well now and i don't even think he is taking it every day. if you want to know the actual med, inbox me on facebook and i will send the name to you.
I find that relaxation cds help me especially if I listen to them with my special twinkly glasses on. And that treatment contains no drugs.
